Dear Maplers,

As we have promised to share more details about the Sky Fortress, we are sharing part 2 of the blog today with more information on Phase 1 of the Skybound Expansion. The MapleStory 2 studio looked into progression as a whole and finalized the structure for the Sky Fortress content yesterday.

Not only that, but the studio has been actively reviewing the overall gear progression data for the past few weeks, and have finally confirmed one addition to the current dungeon. Please understand that sometimes we cannot disclose anything until we review and finalize details. Since dungeon changes can impact the overall speed of gear progression, which can impact the overall lifecycle of the game, the team here and at the dev studio have been pulling data and tracking gear score distribution every week to see the trend. And as of last night, we could confirm that we want to experiment with some things in the December 6th update.

Since everyone is really focused on the Hard Adventure Dungeon structure change, let me get to the dungeon change first.

Hard Adventure Dungeon Change

I wouldn’t call this particular part a change, but more an experiment to test the speed of gear progression in the form of an event. You’ll see this experiment in action from the newly added item in the reward lists of Hard Adventure Dungeons with the tag “EVENT”. Again, this is more of an experiment, but we decided to use the already existing “EVENT” tag for now.

Starting with the December 6th update, all the Hard Adventure Dungeons will be dropping an item called Epic Toad’s Enchanting Stone Fragments (final name TBD). You will be getting 10 fragments per dungeon clear, and with 20 fragments, you will be able to create an Epic Toad’s Enchanting Stone (final name TBD). This stone can be consumed instead of a copy of gear that you need to use when enchanting Epic gear. This stone essentially works like a wildcard, and can be used for any armor or weapon.

This is identical to getting 30 pieces of gear of your class and type (including weapons) which can be used for enchanting. This item was sold for NX in another region, but we are testing this in the dungeons as a drop to see how the inclusion of this item changes overall progression for the Epic gear.

This will be run as an event until January 10th. Before the event ends, we will evaluate how this change impacted overall progression and will announce the next steps after that.

This item was already in review by the MapleStory 2 dev studio for the past few weeks, and we’ve reached a decision and finalized the plan yesterday.

To summarize:
  • Newly proposed three-step Hard Adventure Dungeon will stay the same
    • We respect the MapleStory 2 dev studio’s design direction to get new players started in dungeons by letting players focus on the different parts of gear that they need step-by-step. This allows the community to go through a variety of dungeon contents earlier
    • This design will create a more structured flow to have players go through each dungeon and choose which dungeon to play based on their gear situation. For example, we are expecting players with high gear scores and Legendary gear will play the dungeons that have a shorter playing time to collect resources and players who need to focus on weapons to play the dungeons with weapons. Players who want to re-roll their optional stats for their already enchanted gear will play the dungeon with Re-roller fragments.
  • Addition of Epic Todd’s Enchanting Stone Fragments will be run as an experiment for over a month with the tag of “EVENT” to test the progression
    • Before January 10th, we will be reviewing the data and will provide information on the next steps
    • Depending on the data, we will be coming up with new system improvements or will continue with the experiment if we need more data points to better assess the gear progression design

I would like to emphasize that it is very tricky to make changes to intricate systems, especially when the game has been released and has already gone through a large number of changes. The development studio spent a very long time coming up with the specifics of MapleStory 2’s progression system, and as we work to improve it we need to make sure that the new models will work well.

We hope this month-long experiment can give the studio enough of data to make a decision on next steps, and create a better experience for the game going forward.

On top of this changes, weekly mission and Sky Fortress content will provide more things for players to work on to get the items you need for gear progression. Please see the details of Sky Fortress contents below!

Sky Fortress Contents

As mentioned in the previous blog, a new adventure is inbound and Maplers will soon experience Sky Fortress and faction missions! In today’s blog, we’ll give you a spoiler-free sneak peek at what the Sky Fortress is and the effect it has on Maple World!

Starting at level 50, you can begin your Sky Fortress adventures and gain favor from 5 powerful groups maintaining the safety and order of the citizens. For those planning to join the Alliance with Soul Binder using Level 50 potion that we are giving out, fear not! The Sky Fortress Epic Quests can be started at level 50 independent of previous Epic Quest progresses.

faction-leaders.png

With the Sky Fortress, you can take on Field Missions, Daily Missions, and Weekly Missions for each faction. You can complete the following number of missions per faction:
  • Field Missions: 1 per day, 7 per week
  • Daily Missions: 5 per day, 35 per week
  • Weekly Missions: 3 per week

When you take the mission, you will be earning a reputation, and reputation will progress in the order of “Known” → “Trusted” → “Respected” → “Beloved” → “Revered”.

A certain level of reputation is required for you to participate in the mission as below:
  • Green Hoods: Available from the start.
  • Lumiknights: Available from the start.
  • Dark Wind: Available when your reputation for Green Hoods and Lumiknights is Trusted (Lv. 2). Achievable in 1 week.
  • Royal Guard: Available when your reputation for Dark Wind is Trusted (Lv. 2). Achievable in 2 weeks.
  • Maple Alliance: Available when your reputation for Royal Guard is Trusted (Lv. 2). Achievable in 3 weeks.

Also, by doing missions for each faction, you will be obtaining tokens that can be used to purchase items from the Faction Shops. You will be able to collect up to 1,260 Tokens per faction per week, and the items you can buy from each Faction Shop will include those listed below (a detailed list to be revealed with the patch notes):

Please note: you will be getting a weapon of your class when you purchase the weapon box from the faction shop. Also, all items will be Character Bound, except the Souvenirs)

Meso Seller & Bots

I have been seeing feedback regarding the overall restriction putting into the black market and the Crystal Fragments. We understand the inconvenience players will be going through, but after a thorough review, we decided to pull the trigger after ensuring it does not impact the normal gameplay.

The vast majority of transactions under level 50 and 60 at the Black Market were used by Meso Sellers, creating or transferring mesos to the RMT buyers. I assure you, we do have all the logs from Black Market who sold which item at what price, and our filters can easily catch who is making suspicious transactions with meso sellers. Please refrain from purchasing meso from these sellers.

We will be reviewing more measures which can solve the issue without creating too much friction on the player’s end, and will provide more updates later on.

We look forward to see everyone in game with the Skybound Expansion next week. The team here is working hard to prepare everything for the update, and to ensure that we have don’t face any technical issues with the major expansion.

Cheers,
Jungsoo Lee and LAMBCOOK

People aren't asking for FREE LOOT and faster progression. While those things may be nice, the core of the issue remains the same: everyone has to spam the same two dungeons, Temple of Immortals and Lubelisk, over and over. There is no dungeon variety. These changes, once again, do nothing to solve this. Everyone still has to do the weapon dungeons over and over. People want to enjoy the game and have fun doing different dungeons, but the structure does not allow us to. Making events to give out free gear and speed up progression just devalues the efforts of players that played without these events and those that play after it's over.

I think this is the third time you have announced changes that do nothing to solve the main issue.

A bit off topic, but the level 60 limit is getting annoying.
When will the level 99 be added like in the Korean version?

From the looks of it, if the new stones go from event to feature, that little 2 dungeon "issue" would be fixed since you are only getting those weapons to sacrifice for the same purpose as those stones.

After all, why run 2 dungeons when you ca- oh wait.
People will just run Lubelisk and Beyondlink. At most an occasional Rog.
    Congrats, a third dungeon.

Where the Rune Temple reroll runners at?

On another note, Sky Fortress looks good.
RIP Crystal Fragment value. They will be so much easier to get now.

Overall this blog is pretty good. Not amazing. Just good.
Bronze star for effort regarding dungeons.

This stone can be consumed instead of a copy of gear that you need to use when enchanting Epic gear. This stone essentially works like a wildcard, and can be used for any armor or weapon.
Let's do a quick math. Consider you do 60 dungeons run ( with reset)
You will have 600 fragments = 30 Epic Toad’s Enchanting Stone (final name TBD)
30 Epic Toad’s Enchanting Stone (final name TBD) = 30 weapon/armor OF YOUR CLASS
The number of weapons of your class gained from running only Lubelisks will be around that with 60 dungeon runs

IN A DIFFERENT WAY OF EXPLAINING
You will have 0.5 (a half) of your weapon per dungeon run - 50% rate of WEAPON OF YOUR CLASS
This rate is almost equal or equal to your class weapon/armor's rate from Lube/TI I think
It allows you to run all hard dungeon with certain rate

On the other hands, other stuffs will DEPEND ON YOU. If you want to maximize the weapon progress ? Run lubelisk/TI. It's you

In total of lubelisk runs, you will receive at least 0.5 your class weapon + 1 random class's weapon
But hey, don't be greedy and blame the poor diversity of the dungeon. The number of weapons of the old Hard dungeon system is around 13~20 (idk) per week without reset
If you run other dungeons, it will still give you guarateed 15 weapons OF YOUR CLASS (Average of the old system) per week without reset
So when you say people HAVE TO spam those 2 dungeons, PLEASE...no one forces you because you can run others and gain same amount of weapons. You just being greedy, greedy and start to blame :)

But I still think the best way will be something like Epic Toad’s Enchanting Stone(Weapon) and Epic Toad’s Enchanting Stone(armor)
Running Lubelisk and Temple of Immortal wont give you Epic Toad’s Enchanting Stone(Weapon) and backward
They're testing the gear progress anyway so im fine with this.

The Todd Stone fragments are awarded in all hard dungeons and, as the post states:

So why do you feel forced to only run one dungeon with the addition of these? Please don't take my question as an insult---I'm just trying to understand.

It doesn't change the fact that running the weapon dungeon will be faster to + up your weapon than other dungeons. No one is going to switch to doing any dungeon or spamming a dungeon like Labyrinth just because now they get toad stones. Doing Lubelisk or Temple of Immortals is STILL faster for progression and gearing up your character.

I just want to say a few things.
After this, Fire Dragon and LAB are still worthless to run ?
-> Duh, you already farmed the gloves and shoes from it. PLease think about new players! Consider "If i were the new player"
Im rushing weapon enchanting so I will still be running only 2 dungeons?
-> Why are you still blaming while you got the best profit ? Isn't rushing your purpose ? Why bashing ?
You can still again same amount of weapon like old system by running other dungeons.
Even if you said Varrekant and Balrog farm...You will eventually get it (That's the purpose of letting Varrekant and Balrog stuff in the LOOT TABLE OF THE DUNGEON). Farming + Rush weapon at the same time? ->Read again the second one
Nexon should let all dungeon drop weapon of your choice?
-> Which bring back to Lubelisk/TI/Tris are the best dungeons.... poor diversity again. Fire Dragon is worthless again..blah blah blah

I think I am convinced that the only true way to diversify dungeons is to assign specific gem dust in each of the hard dungeons.

I have to say, it's not without its flaws but I do love the change! I would say my biggest problems now have to do with the enchanting system and difficulty of later chaos raids like CPAP. As for the issue regarding people still only running 2 dungeons, that's fine! Let people choose. We aren't here to decide what people should and shouldn't run and force diversity for diversity's sake. The fact is, now you actually do have a choice. Before you did not. (You could say you could just decide not to farm weapons but that's unreasonable). You now have a choice between running all weapon dungeons or running other dungeons. I would recommend adding something to FD/Lab to make it more desired, like the re-rolls of beyond link and Rune temple. Not sure what to add, but right now there isn't much reason to run FD once you get some decent gloves/hat/boots. Maybe some crystal ore for Peachy? With how many weapons you need for enchanting with the new legendary weapons and only being able to run 6 raids a week it would be nice if peachy was a little more viable and crystal ore was more farmable. Ultimately is up to the dev team.
Thank you for your hard work!

So for the Hard Dungeons you're going to leave the change as is and hopefully you will review it again in the future when the event takes place. The enchanting stone won't really solve the fact that people are still going to run Lubelisk and Temple of Immortals. It will mitigate it sure, but it won't solve it.

The Sky Fortress looks interesting though. I have two words for it though: REP GRIND. I think it'll be interesting to see if it is worth the overall 50% loot nerf from Hard Dungeons. It looks pretty consistent. Does this mean that this replaces the daily missions overall? Hopefully so. But I kinda doubt this warrants the 50% loot nerf tho. :c

We shall see. But seriously though... Don't let the statistics of running a same dungeon a lot cloud your judgement in the future. You basically ruined the dungeon diversity after these changes. Spoiler alert and I won't sugar coat this: Not only people will do Sky Fortress a lot alongside with farming the Dark Wind Reputation, but players will run Temple of Immortals and Lubelisk A LOT.

Seems like my Zerker and my Knight are going to have a field day where my gunner took a hit since he's a Tris farmer. :[

EDIT: Also, for Empress' sake stop making changes that inconvenient players to combat bots. Ban the meso buyers! The 30 day ban is not enough!!!

You have a point , but look at it this way , will people really do different dungeons? Everyone would ALWAYS run the dungeon that clear the fastest , People will say that they will , they will do it for maybe a week or so then everyone will just run whichever dgn that require the least amount of time . Tronix was the best example out of all the normal dungeon back when the game launched .

The addition of the enchantment stones to the dungeons looks good to me, would be nice to have them sooner but it'll help me enchant faster when i create my soul binder ( at least its what i think ).

Now on another topic im not sure if you did a mass banning of bots but today i've seen them flooding tria more than usual along with an increase in ping ( from 250 to 1k+ ) and lower FPS, i've asked guild members if they were experiencing the same high ping which they confirmed... obviously i couldn't get into dungeons since there's no way i can tell if i dodged certain attacks successfully.

I still disagree with the black market changes. You don't need to stop the bots from trading but from farming dungeons Blueshade Cave which is the new Tronix or just from getting into the game adding a random number captcha that has to be solved by clicking with the mouse.

Its getting to a point that not only i can't sell some of my stuff without dropping the price to the ground but can't even farm due to lag.

Other than that, looking forward to the patch and thanks for updating people with these posts.

I appreciate the hard work you guys are doing to make the game more enjoyable. I think with the addition of Epic Toad's Enchanting Stones weapon and armor enhancement progression will be fine in the long term. Having more resources to enhance gear and more attempts per week to get passable secondary stats is great.

As for the gem upgrades, accessory socket unlocks and % chance to catch an epic pet does the team feel the rate at which these are obtained is reasonable? I'm asking because outside of the RNG of enhancing gear and finding gear with preferred secondary stats, they are the main sources of progression when it comes to the Chaos Raids.

I welcome this concept of having some sort of token that can stand in place of any equipment for enchanting.

Guess I'm not going to get any points for pointing out that obviously this is a dungeon grind game combined with RNG and timegate to delay peoples progression. There are some who will manage to make the check and there are some who won't. There are some who will obtain something with less effort and some who won't obtain anything with a lot of effort. I believe that the core of this game is not fair at all for peoples progressions. Everything is just based on RNG and the solutions given to us tend to be in the form of more RNG.

I'd like to test take an alt through the game and check out the new changes, but the essence of this game appears to be run your dungeons, make your attempts at whatever, then repeat over and over. Where's the substance to that?

[Edit] After reading a post on reddit, I believe that the core intent of this game was to make it unfair in the first place to force people to spend real money on it. Instead of trying to provide a somewhat decent and meaningful experience, it was all about frustrating people with the RNG into spending real money. Without being able to change the core of the game, I don't see how we can get past these band aid fixes.

Another blog and another bandaid fix. It's obvious that the devs have no control over the core mechanics of the game itself. GMS2 is just a money bag on rails for you right?

Im going to go against everyone in this thread and say an extra 30 weapon drops is a huge step forward in alleviating the grind.

This simply means that even if players stay in lube/rog longer. It means they can be done SOONER due to the combination of and be free to use dungeon runs as they wish.

Thank you . i dont think people realize how much of an improvement this is in terms of speed that will lead TO freedom in dungeon options
