This post will (eventually) be the Ultimate Archer Guide, a single location for everything you need to be the best Archer you can be. As the game goes into CBT, is released, and has new content added, this post will be updated to include all of the best information regarding skills and abilities, training, bossing, and equips. The guide is still a work in progress, so if you have any suggestions, please share them.

Special thanks to @lolzfail for all of the damage calculations and theoretical analyses.

--- Overview ---

Weapon: Bow
Damage Type: Physical, Fire, Ice
Primary Stats: Dexterity, Attack Speed, Critical Damage
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆

Hometown: Henesys
Leader: Militia Captain Oska

--- Attribute Point Distribution ---

Archers have two valuable attributes they can increase, Dexterity and Critical Rate. Based on our current understanding of the Archer's damage formula, Dexterity seems to be the better option in possibly every scenario. For more personal application, put your ability points into Dexterity and test your DPS against training dummies. Try the same experiment with your ability points in Critical Rate and compare the two for yourself.

--- Introduction to Skill Builds ---

This guide contains two skills builds: one for questing/mobbing (area damage) and one for bossing (single-target damage). It's highly recommended to focus on questing until at least the main storyline is complete, so it's unlikely anyone is going to be using the bossing build until level 40-50, but, for the sake of completeness, the bossing skill guide here starts at level 1.

The fact that our skill points can be reset at will and without cost means that it's impossible to make a decision that will affect our character permanently. As such, we will find that the most optimal strategies actually involve removing points from certain skills as new pathways become opened to us. These guides have been split at these crucial moments where significant changes are made to the current allocation of skill points. What we'll see written in the build is less of where we're putting the skill points, but rather what level the skills should be at that time.

On top of that, you will unlock more skill points as you complete objectives and achievements. Since it's impossible to know how many bonus points a given player may have at a particular level, they won't be discussed in detail in this guide. Simply put the points into skills you started to level, but had to cut back in order to reallocate points.

    --- Lv 1-24: Early Days ---

Up until level 25, we will focus on upgrading our main source of damage:For mobbing, this is Arrow Barrage, and for bossing, it's Rapid Shot. Since we can only upgrade the skills once every two levels, on the alternate levels, we will be upgrading the two passive skills available to us, Bronze Eagle and Conditioning, which will further boost the damage that we can put out with our damaging abilities.

    --- Mobbing ---

    --- Bossing ---

Note that at level 16, we need to redistribute our skill points in order to unlock Rapid Shot right away.

    --- Lv 25-33: Raining Arrows ---

Whether we're bossing or mobbing, now that we've hit level 25, it's imperative that we unlock Arrow Storm immediately. It's one of the Archer's most powerful and versatile skills, and it should be used it all situations. We need Arrow Barrage at level 5 and Rapid Shot at level 3, so no matter which skill build we're following, we'll need to do some shuffling of the skill points.

Both paths will keep Bronze Eagle at level 1 for the dexterity bonus and take any other points we need from Conditioning, which offers a comparatively smaller bonus.

    --- Lv 34-42: Crits for Days ---

At level 34, we unlock Sharp Eyes, a critical skill, pun intended, for all Archers.

For Mobbers, at this point, you may wish to divert from these builds and experiment with different levels of Sharp Eyes and damaging abilities. You may find you actually want to unlock Sharp Eyes immediately, at the cost of some skill points in Arrow Storm. This really comes down to personal preference and how much you personally rely on Arrow Storm verses Arrow Barrage.

For Bossers, Sharp Eyes is a fundamental skill, as it's capable of buffing your entire party. This skill is a core reason why Archers are valuable on boss runs, and it will be our new leveling priority. Unfortunately, it has a fairly high requirement of Conditioning 6, so we'll once again do some skill point moving.

    --- Lv 43-50: Coming Soon ---

After level 43, the way in which you build your character can vary greatly from here on out. Screwdriver Shot becomes available at 43, but you may wish to instead aim to unlock Agile Archer, because the piercing can help against bosses. Alternatively, if you're struggling with resource management, you can go for Eagle's Majesty, to get back some Spirit during combat.

Thanks for the compilation! Can I ask for the source material as well? I think I've seen some of the skill descriptions in that layout somewhere else before.

Keep me posted on this guide. Once it's complete I'll make space on the overall class 'megathread' I made to link it so you get more traffic. :)

We need to start calling this class by the correct name!

    ARCHER.

I know I am having problems after saying ranger for the last couple weeks.

Somewhat true XD for me archer, ranger, sharpshooter, hunter is all pretty much the same and don't really care much about difference but good point there. In case someone got confused about this and that @w@

Haha I call them Ranger in my guide because it sounds nicer than saying 'the Archer category breaks into two classes, the Archer and the Heavy Gunner'. :D

Either way I have my 'Archer' graphics ready should I need to make the switch :p

They will probably change it to like Bowmen or something different so we won't be so confused. Or maybe it will be the Ranger Category. AaaH I just want beta already so we can know more official info!

Yeah, unfortunately, the forums are pretty limited as far as formatting goes. I'll keep working on it, but what I really need is the ability to make tables. I made a post on the Sugestions and Feedback forums about the issue.

@DanDK My source is here. It's all in Korean, but Google does a semi-decent job of translating it. My translation is more "thought for thought" than "word for word".

@Faelight Actually, I used the word "Ranger" because that's what nexon uses. See here for their official guide to the classes. It's not just that they use the Korean word for "ranger" which we translate into "ranger" (which is true), it's the fact that even on the Korean site, they have it called "Ranger" in English.

Whether or not the class names will change in GMS is still up for debate, though the fact that this is the "Archer" forum does lend some credence to that theory, but as soon as that happens, it's easy enough to edit the post.

I did a quick write-up on the class names and categories as per the Korean translations in this thread.

@DrYoshiyahu - I understand that is the Korean translation, on the Korean site but we are talking about this site. Yes, I've seen it everywhere as Ranger.

However all official Global channels have been calling it Archer so that must be the way GMS2 is choosing to translate the class. They have yet to call it Ranger in the English version regardless of the Korean translation. It was called Archer during the official announcement stream at MapleFest, on the official discord, the road trip quizzes and now this forums. I don't think it is a debate, the class is Archer for GMS2.

@Faelight Yeah, I think you've made a convincing case. Translations are always fascinating to me. I'm super excited for the CBT mainly so we get to see some official translations of character names, skill descriptions, and other flavour text.

Rest assured that the moment I log in on that day, I'm just going to spend the entire day transcribing everything into the guide. :P

The big question left unanswered, at least for me personally, is what the class categories (계열) are going to be in GMS2. Pretty sure the Archer class won't be in the Archer series.

I'll definitely be accepting any help anyone can offer. One thing that will either take time or crowd-sourcing are the upgrade amounts for each equip and skill. I hope I can max out every skill and get the stats at each level during the CBT, but it's unlikely. So if any Archers get to 50+, and start upgrading some of those higher-level equips and skills, I'm definitely happy to get some screenshots at every threshold.

Or, maybe you can try asking anyone who has access to the game in beta to share you those game files, and take a peek on anything related to archers :) Game files are the fastest way to fill up a guide ;) I could be wrong so don't blame me xP

If I get into closed beta I'll post whatever I can in this thread to help you out :)

Don't know if I am going to be rushing to level cap or not.

On another note, what programs do you use to look into the game files?

I'll probably make a new thread when CBT starts, just for spamming screenshots of quests, equips, and skills. Don't really want this comment section to be spammed with nothing but screenshots. :P

So I've added basic skill builds for bossing and mobbing, and I was able to hit the character limit pretty easily. Glad I reserved those other two comments.

In any case, I'd love to get feedback on the builds. Do you agree or disagree? Will you be rushing Sharp Eyes?
